Join a group that enjoys good food, visiting local sites and convivial company. The RMA is made up of retired teachers from Wirral, Liverpool, Cheshire and North Wales, who with their family members, friends and dogs organise a series of events in the local region throughout the year at which they can all meet up and enjoy.

Wednesday 27 February: AGM and lunch at the Cock at Budworth, nr. Northwich, CH9 6HB at 11.00 am.


Wednesday 20 March: Pub lunch at Pesto Cabbage Hall, Oakmere, CW6 9ES at 12.15 pm. This is on the A49 between Sandiway and Tarporley, Cheshire, with an Italian menu. Please tell Jillian Neale if you intend to come jilliansocsec@btinternet.com or 01457 864320

Wednesday 10 April: Visit to Cae Dai 1950s Era Museum, Denbigh, LL16 4SU off B4501 (Denbigh-Nantglyn). A fascinating collection of all things 50s & 60s. Meet at 10.30 am for Guided Tour & tea/coffee. Wednesday 15 May: Visit to Cholmondeley Castle Gardens, nr. Malpas, SY14 8AH on A49 (Tarporley-Whitchurch). Entrance by the Cholmnondeley Arms roundabout. Meet in the cafe at 10.30 am. Thursday 23 May: Pub lunch at the Shippons Pub & Kitchen, 8A Thingwall Road, Irby, Wirral, CH61 3UA at 12.00 noon. Please tell Anne Kitchener by 16 May if you intend to come.


Wednesday 5 June: Pub lunch at the Swettenham Arms, Swettenham Village, nr. Congleton, CW12 2LF at 12.15 pm. We will be joined by members of the Derbyshire RMA. Lunch will be preceded, for those who wish, by a Guided Walk, led by the Curator, around the Lovell Quinta Arboretum which is adjacent to the pub and was planted by Sir Bernard Lovell. Cost £6.00 pp. There is also a lavender field behind the pub. Coffee will be available in the pub from 10.15 am. The walk will start at 10.45 am. Swettenham is a small village in the country between Holmes Chapel and Congleton. For details and to book contact Jillian Neale by 29 May.

Monday 5 August: Lunch at The Place To Eat in John Lewis, 70 St. John Street, Liverpool L1 8BJ at 12.00 noon with an opportunity to visit, as you wish, one of the museums or shopping areas in the City Centre. Wednesday 14 August: Visit to RAF Burtonwood Heritage Centre, nr, Warrington, WA5 9YZ. Next to Gulliver's World, signed from M62, J8 or 9. What life was like at Europe's largest WW2 Airbase; the USAF was there in force. Guided Tour 2.00-4.30 pm. including a break for refreshments. Cost £6.00 pp. Meet for lunch beforehand nearby at 12.00 noon (venue to be notified later). Numbers are limited so booking is essential. For details and to book contact Richard Sayle by 1 August.

Wednesday 25 September: Visit to the National Waterways Museum, Ellesmere Port, CH65 4FW, signed from the M53. Meet for Silver Package Visit (Cost £12.50 pp.) at 10.30 am. for tea/coffee/biscuits (included in price), a 30 minute Boat Trip and 1 hour Guided Tour. Followed by lunch nearby (venue to be notified). For details and to book, contact Richard Sayle by 13 September.


Tuesday 8 October: Visit to Elizabeth Gaskell House, 84 Plymouth Grove, Manchester, M13 9LW. The restored home of the Victorian novelist, author of Cranford. Meet at 10.30 am. for a Guided Tour, with tea/coffee and cake included. Cost £12.50 pp. 

After lunch nearby, a visit to the Victoria Baths, Hathersage Road, Manchester, M13 0FE. Guided Tour at 2.30 pm. for 1 hour, of the restoration and refurbishment so far (no water yet!) of a Victorian Building described as "the most splendid municipal bathing establishment in the country". Cost £5.00 pp.

The two venues are not far apart and near the City Centre. There is on-street parking close to Elizabeth Gaskell House and off-street parking at the Victoria Baths. Both can be reached by public transport. Booking is essential. Contact Richard Sayle by 31 August.

Wednesday 18 December: Bents Garden Centre Christmas Spectacular, Glazebury, Warrington, WA3 5NT. Meet in the restaurant at 10.45 am. for tea/coffee and/or 12.00 noon for lunch. Wander round the displays and shop or sit and chat. Just turn up.
